Decades of Conflict: World War
II to Present
Fallbrook Art Center pays tribute to our country’s military
with a compelling, compassionate look over the past 67 years
of American military involvement.
The role of the military is an integral part of Fallbrook’s
history with USMC Camp Pendleton serving as our western border.
The base was established in 1942 to train U.S. Marines for
service in World War II and by October 1944, Camp Pendleton
was declared as a "permanent installation". In 1946,
it became the home of the 1st Marine Division and continues
in that role today.
Decades of Conflict explores the period 1941 – 2008
and the many realities of war experience during that time;
from those who fought, to those at home, and the undeniable
influence on all our lives. Through the language of art, the
exhibition seeks to engage the public in a broad-based dialogue
that promotes awareness, understanding, and healing. The show
includes military artifacts, personal photos and stories,
as well as historical and contemporary works of art. The community
and show visitors are invited to add their own photos and
stories from the period to a timeline wall that will grow
throughout the show.
Collaborative Partners:
USMC Camp Pendleton, Fallbrook’s VFW Post 1924, Fallbrook
Chamber of Commerce, and Fallbrook Historical Society

12th Annual National Gourd Fine
Art + Fiber Art Show.
It’s amazing that so common an object as a gourd can
be transformed into fascinating works of art as well as functional
objects and jewelry. This year we’ve expanded this very
popular show to include Fiber Art.
The Fallbrook area is nationally acclaimed as a gourd-growing
destination. The final weekend of the show coincides with
the Welburn International Gourd Art Festival at the Welburn
Gourd Farm located 12 miles north of the Center.
The techniques used in the featured works of gourd art are:
carving, coiling, decoupage, dying, lashing, painting, weaving,
wood burning, polymer clay, and more. The materials incorporated
to embellish the pieces range from acrylic paints, gold-leaf,
dyes & waxes to accessories such as bone, cane, coins,
eucalyptus pods, feathers, glass beads, hemp twine, leather,
leaves, Pakistani grass, palm fronds, pine needles, raffia
& shells … the list is only limited by the artists’
imaginations!
